Last week’s amanté Ignites took on a different theme and showcased our Enchantresses how to effectively and meaningfully connect with their kids. With the holidays nearing, keeping children occupied is important, and better yet, vacation time is a great opportunity to build and grow the relationship. We introduced Sulochana Dissanayake, founder of Power of Play & Seema Omar, a creative therapist, and counselor to conduct the evening session!
This workshop was dynamic with everyone on their feet learning new ways to interact with children all the while bringing out their inner kid. The session commenced with a get-to-know activity where everyone spoke about themselves, their daily routines, about their children and how they interact with their little ones.
Laughter was brimming throughout the workshop as we jumped straight into the first activity: Shake Out the Adult Child within. The mums took pillow sticks and, like children, paired up and started a war! Streams of laughter and thudding footsteps made the amanté Boutique light up! The feedback was effective, with the mums letting out their inner silliness without the worry of stressful to-do lists in their lives. To bring to light our appreciation for mothers, they passed a ball between themselves and as they did, they associated an adjective with their name to empower their role in the lives of children!
The group moved on to the senses activities wherein a pair would use one of the six senses to reach the end goal. The sound game involved jars of rocks, pebbles, stones, etc. and the pair had to cram their hearing to guess the items in each jar corresponding to the sound it made! As such, Sulo & Seema laughingly conducted activities per sense that could easily be played with their little ones! The most jocularly difficult activity was the taste game. The mothers had to keep delicious chocolate raisins on their tongue for a prolonged period without gobbling them up! This was, by far, the most difficult as it tested their patience. As with all the games of the evening, it was a way to connect and understand their children. The lack of patience that we all have reflects our children’s’ as well. It is key to understand the level of patience of each child and respect and work around it.
To conclude the evening, the ladies put their creativity and imagination to the test! Of the pair, one would scribble a line on the paper and the other would have to create a masterpiece with it! It was a reflected as a great activity amongst their children to boost their imagination and creative essence! This was followed by a final bout of admiration to the mums!
The mothers were asked to think of a happy place. They reflected on themselves and how far in life they’ve progressed. It was an activity meant to admire who they are. In a time when we rarely think about ourselves when kids run around us, it is important to adore and cherish oneself. That is exactly what this activity did!
Finally, to reflect on the evening’s activities, we invited the ladies for a few glasses of brewed iced tea and delicious finger food at Tea Breeze. The feedback was excellent, with mothers showcasing genuine intent to use some of these activities to connect meaningfully with their children!
